This is a prospect of Berlin taken from the Kreuzberg heights. It is rendered in two instalments, each orientated inversely to one another. The Marienkirche (annotated ‘Mar’ by Turner), Nikolaikirche, Cathedral, Neue Kirche and French Church can all be seen. A windmill is visible on the hill at right.
For other sketches of Berlin see Tate D21045–D31082; Turner Bequest CCCVII 13a–32.
