Remains of an inscription, bottom centre.
Watercolour and pencil, 13½ x 10¿ (34.5 x 25.7).
Presented by the National Art-Collections Fund from the Herbert Powell Bequest 1967.
Coll: Herbert Powell 1917; entrusted by him to the N.A.-C.F. 1929.

Almost certainly made during Cox’s visit to France in 1829. He returned to France for a short while in 1832 but appears to have confined himself to the Channel ports. His only other visit was a brief stay in Calais on his way to Belgium in 1826.
