The artist wrote (letter, 10 May 1978) that both his drawings T02244 and T02245
were done as ends in themselves and are not consciously related in any way to his tapestries and their designs. They were not directly based on any figurative image, though T02244, like many of his works from the early 1970s, may still show a certain unconscious influence of the Norwegian landscape. In his more recent drawings he has tried to eliminate this influence and has turned to an expression based more on the weight and colour of the line (as in T02245).
Both drawings were executed in black crayon (Talens-Wasco, Dutch) on German 4 R Hammer paper and fixed with a fixative.
