British Art Week 2004
British Art Week, supported by BP, is an annual celebration of British art past and present. Initiated by Tate Britain to mark the opening of its new BP British Art Displays the week will include a range of events from artist discussions to celebrity talks and from a family day to a late-evening public British Art Party.

The launch of the BP British Art Displays with new rooms including those dedicated to the work of Francis Bacon, Vanessa Bell and Donald Rodney as well as a display of new acquisitions of work by Tracey Emin. New themed rooms include those focusing on stained glass fragments, caricature and national identity.

Award-winning writer and film director Anthony Minghella will give the British Art Lecture on 21 September. The director of films including The Talented Mr Ripley, The English Patient and, most recently, Cold Mountain, Minghella has written extensively for theatre, television and radio and is Chair of the British Film Institute.

Michael Landy will talk to writer and broadcaster Louisa Buck about his extraordinary project Semi-detached at Tate Britain.

Jake and Dinos Chapman are renowned for the use of horror in their work and Jake will discuss their interest in the genre with film critic and broadcaster Mark Kermode on 23 September. He will also present excerpts from the brothers' favourite British horror films.
 
Free British Art Party  |  24 September 2004 British Art Week Party
The British Art Party on the evening of 24 September offers an opportunity to view the new displays, as well as DJs, half-price entry to Art and the 60s and special talks by Bonnie Greer, Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen and Arabella Weir in which they discuss works in the BP British Art Displays.
 
Family Day  |  25 September 2004 Family day
A Family Day on 25 September offers a range of activities for all the family including the chance to take a new trail of the British Art Displays with illustrations by the award winning Sarah Fanelli, author workshops, storytelling sessions, a DJ in the Manton Entrance café, cake decorating workshops, a screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, plus the Art Trolley, Art Space and a presentation on Richard Dadd's the Fairy Feller's Masterstroke by bestselling author Terry Pratchett.
