Saturday 24 February 2007 – Sunday 25 February 2007, 10.30–16.30

William Hogarth, satirist and celebrated printmaker, captured English society through his vibrant paintings, sketches and the numerous engraved works for which he is perhaps most famous, including Gin Lane, Beer Street, Industry and Idleness and the Four Stages of Cruelty. This practical weekend workshop explores Hogarth’s print techniques. Through visiting the exhibition, seeing a print demonstration and practical experimentation with simple engraving techniques participants examine the ways in which Hogarth captured the unique characters and dramatic scenes of eighteenth-century London. Beginners are welcome, although some experience of drawing would be useful.
