The Lives and Letters of Prunella Clough
This study day uses the Tate Archive’s rich resource of notebooks, photographs and other working materials to form a detailed picture of the painter and printmaker Prunella Clough (1919-99). It coincides with a Tate Britain exhibition which presents the breadth of Clough’s work; from her early figurative paintings to her abstractions of the 1980s and 1990s. Led by art-historian Margaret Garlake this study day will make direct connections between archival material and works on display. Through visits to the exhibition and a rare opportunity to view a range of archival material this afternoon will consider Clough’s fascination with the urban and industrial landscape and developments in her style and working methods.
