Aubrey Williams
Artist Aubrey Williams was a key figure in the establishment of black visual culture in Britain and one of the founders of the Caribbean Arts Movement in the 1960s. His work and life continue to provoke debate, revealing as much about Williams's work as about the cultural and political context in which it is viewed today. To coincide with a display of the artist's archive, this study day brings together key critics, curators and artists including Guy Brett, Anne Walmsley, Dr Hassan Arero, Sonia Boyce Dr Leon Wainwright and film maker Imruh Bakari to reconsider his role and legacy in British art.
