Anthony Caro and his Working Methods
Talk and Studio Visit
In the late 1960s the creation of purely abstract works – sculpture constructed and welded in steel, comprising beams, girders and other found elements painted in bright colours – marked a shift in Anthony Caro’s work. He has since continued with a wide range of methods and materials, exemplified by recent works in bronze, ceramic, wood and paper.
This study day investigates the breadth of experimentation and exploration in his practice and working methods. From his retrospective at Tate Britain with over fifty works on view, the day includes lectures, slides, gallery discussion and an exclusive visit to the artist’s studio in London. It is led by Alex Coles, lecturer and art critic.
