Moulin Rouge to Mornington Crescent
Degas, Sickert and Toulouse-Lautrec
Edgar Degas painted scenes of the the margins of Parisian society: the dancers of the opera, artists' models and prostitutes. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and the English painter Walter Sickert recorded similar subjects, but each of their approaches was very different.
This weekend workshop offers the opportunity to explore the artists’ methods by visiting the exhibition and then using the simple printmaking techniques of Degas, the graphic language of Toulouse-Lautrec and the tonal experiments of Sickert to create images of the figure.
Beginners are welcome, although some experience of drawing would be useful. A model is provided.
