Portraits and Celebrity
A Study Day for Mental Health Service Users

Led by Fran Wilde
Wednesday 29 June 2005, 11.00–16.00

This study day is part of a regular programme for current users of mental health services. The day  enables individuals to attend the gallery and enjoy an in-depth yet gently paced exploration in a supportive context.
The focus of the day will be on the Joshua Reynolds: The Creation of Celebrity exhibition but also considers how more contemporary artists such as Chris Ofili and Tracey Emin address issues of celebrity and identity in their work. Participants use group discussion, drawing or creative writing activities to explore personal responses to the artworks.
