Historical research is at the core of Olivia Plender’s practice. Her works investigate subjects that are idiosyncratic and little-known: peculiar pockets of forgotten history that sit awkwardly with the way we live now. For Tate Triennial 2006 she creates a theatre piece, based on early BBC TV arts programming such as Monitor from the 1950s, which examines how the authoritative frames of the museum and broadcast media present art.
