BT: Bringing Innovation & Technology Together

Guidelines for Your Visit

All groups (visiting independently or on a Tate-led session) must book in advance.  To make a booking, please see How to Book.

To confirm your booking we will send you important Guidelines and a Health and Safety Statement. Please fully brief all responsible adults and visiting students and ensure these Guidelines are observed throughout your visit. You will need to sign that you have read and understood these Guidelines on your arrival at the reception desk.

Supervision

Adult supervision is required at all times – accompanying adults are always responsible for students. Please meet the following adult:student ratios:

  • Age under 5 1:5
  • Age 6–11 1:10
  • Age 12–16 1:15
  • Over 16 1:20 minimum

Group Sizes

A maximum of 60 pupils per school can be allowed on any day. To avoid overcrowding there is also a limit on the number of group visits per day.

For group sizes per Tate-led session, visit the Gallery Talks and Workshops page.

Preliminary Visit

We strongly advise you to make a preliminary planning visit to check that the content of the rooms is appropriate. Please note: Artworks can be taken off display at very short notice or for unforeseen reasons, so it is wise to include a variety of works in your planning. To check if a specific work is displayed, call 020 7887 8734 (Tate Britain) or 020 7401 5120 (Tate Modern).

School Party Travel Scheme

Transport for London offers free travel on Tube, DLR, bus, tram and National Rail services (within Greater London only - except Amersham to Moor Park) to venues of an educational and cultural interest that enhance, support and supplement teaching as part of the National Curriculum. To find out more, visit the Transport for London website.

Special Exhibitions

A special schools group price is available at all paying exhibitions, provided groups book in advance. All groups must book at least two weeks in advance for paying and free exhibitions on 020 7887 3959.

Groups are given a set timeslot and this slot must be kept to for crowd management. A fixed number of tickets are reserved for groups per timeslot, so you will need to be flexible about your entry time to an exhibition in case your preferred time is already full.

Teachers are eligible for concessionary entry if you show your Teacher ID.

The schools discount does not apply to tickets purchased on the day.

Where possible, pre-booked tickets will be posted to you in advance. Collect late-booked tickets from the Groups and Events Desk in the Rotunda at the Millbank Entrance (Tate Britain) or the Exhibition ticketing desk, Level 4 (Tate Modern).

Once payment has been taken, tickets are non-exchangeable and non-refundable.
