This conference examines the allure of the city from William Hogarth's day to the present. Among the topics to be discussed are: satire and the affectations of city life; theatre and popular entertainment; street culture; politics and protest; anonymity and the crowd; suburbia and the city; and surfing the city.

The speakers include Clare Brant King's College, London, Vic Gatrell, University of Essex, Alan Morrison, University of Westminster, Lynda Nead, Birbeck and Toby Litt, Novelist.
