Curating Caro
Rachel Tant

Saturday 26 February 2005, 15.00–16.00

Sir Anthony Caro is widely regarded as one of the world's greatest living artists, whose sculptural innovations heralded a revolution in art during the early 60s. Tate curator Rachel Tant leads a tour of this major retrospective which surveys over fifty years of his work. Seminal pieces will be discussed, from his ground-breaking steel sculptures to new works in which fresh lines are apparent. Caro’s expansion of what he called ‘the language of sculpture’ and his influence on successive generations of artists from Gilbert and George to Richard Deacon will be explored within the context of the exhibition.
