Gianni Vattimo

Gianni Vattimo is Professor of Theoretical Philosophy at the University of Turin and a world renowned philosopher.He gives a special lecture on his work, for students of philosophy and critical theory.

His interpretation of contemporary hermeneutic ontology and his emphasis on its positive link with nihilism, which arises from the metaphysics and criticism of Nietzsche and Heidegger, has been instrumental in shaping contemporary artistic and curatorial thought.

Vattimo is editor of Aesthetic Review and fellow of the Accademia delle Scienze, Turin.  He is the author of After Christianity, Belief, Beyond Interpretation: The Meaning of Hermeneutics for Philosophy, End of Modernity: Nihilism and Hermeneutics in Postmodern Culture and Religion and Transparent Society.

Vattimo will also be participating in the Tate Britain symposium Conceptions of Space: Architecture and Curating.
