Norman Rosenthal in Conversation with Martin Postle

Friday 2 September 2005, 19.00–20.00

In his day Joshua Reynolds was one of the most celebrated artists in Western Europe. Joshua Reynolds: The Creation of Celebrity, the first exhibition at Tate dedicated to his work, presents many of the artist’s greatest portraits, and positions his work within a social, political and cultural context. When the Royal Academy was established in 1768, Reynolds was elected its first President.

Since 1977 Norman Rosenthal has been Exhibitions Secretary of the Royal Academy and the driving force behind their impressive and visionary exhibition programme.

To complement the exhibition, this special event will take the form of a conversation between Tate curator, Martin Postle and Rosenthal on the work, the influence and the legacy of Joshua Reynolds.
