Sonia Boyce on Donald Rodney
|
Part of Black History Month
Artist Sonia Boyce creates work that explores the experiences of a black woman living in a white society, and how religion, politics and sexual
politics have contributed to and constituted that experience. A close friend of Donald Rodney, her early work – like his – was rooted in the political activism of the Black Arts Movement. More recently, her emphasis has shifted to the communicative
abilities of the work itself. Sonia Boyce talks about Donald Rodney and the legacy of his work within Tate Britain's new Rodney
display. This event is part of a Late at Tate Britain celebrating Black History Month.
