Sparky Tate is a day-long celebration of fire and
light at Tate Britain, taking place the day before bonfire
night. All workshops and performances are free:

Drop-in workshops

Head on a stick
Make effigies for burning with artist Gino Succone. Give your Guy a beard, collar and hat, taking inspiration from Tudor and Stuart portraits.

Guy

Sunsets in a box
Join artist Shane Waltener to create your own sunsets in a box, inspired by the paintings of JMW Turner.

Burning Bright
Join Karen Logan to create a giant collage inspired by the fiery art and poetry of William Blake and others.

Sparkle Park
As a special one-off installation, artist Jason Bruges creates a magical space of projected light and ambient sound.

Go Pop!
Become a firework and go pop in the Pop Art Room with artist Ruchama Hoed.

Music Sessions

Crackle and Bang
11.30, 12.30, 13.30, 14.30, 15.30
(30 people maximum per session)
Invent noises and words to create the sounds of fire and fireworks using bubble wrap, crinkle paper and other improvised musical instruments with the music ensemble, The Drones.

Remember, Remember the 5th of November
12.00, 13.00, 14.00, 15.00, 16.00
Sing along to broadside ballads on the gunpowder plot with recorder players, Heidi Fardell and Kirsten Halliday.

Performance

Meet Guy Fawkes
10.00-17.00
Come and chat to Guy Fawkes who will be roaming the galleries trying to recruit more plotters to blow up the Houses of Parliament.

Sparks in the Dark
17.00-17.15
End the day by watching a live fire display on the front lawn. Due to space restrictions, only 500 tickets are available from the Manton Entrance Information Desks from 15.30. Available on a first come, first served basis.
