an exhibition celebrating the British landscape - 16 June - 4 September 2005

Use this interactive map to find out more about the six regions highlighted in A Picture of Britain. Select a particular city, area or landmark to explore a wide range of Tate-owned works that incorporate ideas about landscape examined in the exhibition. The boundaries that divide these regions are fluid and imaginary; they capture traditional and sometimes even contradictory ideas about different parts of the British countryside. Many of the works highlighted in this map are currently on display in A Picture of Britain, while others are featured in our permanent collection displays.

You can also use this map to learn more about individual works in the show, to listen to audio clips featuring David Dimbleby, or test your knowledge of each region by taking a quiz.
