Patrick George
Hickbush
(1961-5)
Patrick George - Hickbush © The Artist © The Artist

Patrick George was introduced to naturalism and outdoor painting by the Euston Road School and by William Coldstream, his teacher at Camberwell School of Art.

This picture is painted to a size similar to constable's larger exhibition pictures, his 'six footers'. It also shows a great empathy with Constable's realism and sense of place. It was painted over an extended period from nature outdoors, on land that George worked himself at Grove Farm, Hickbush, Suffolk.
