1924
- Born 8 March in New Malden, Surrey.
1937-42
- Attends Charterhouse school, Surrey.
1942-44
- Reads engineering at Christ's College, University of Cambridge; obtains an MA.

- Studies sculpture at Farnham School of Art during vacations.
1944-46
- Serves in Fleet Air Arm of Royal Navy as an Air Engineer Officer.
1946
- Attends Regent Street Polytechnic and studies sculpture.
1947-52
- Attends Royal Academy Schools in London.
1949
- Marries Sheila Girling, a painter and a fellow student at the Royal Academy Schools.
1951
- First son Timothy is born.

- Caro begins work as Henry Moore’s part-time assistant.

1953-1979
- Starts teaching part-time at St Martin’s School of Art, London.
1954
- Moves family to North London and sets up studio in his one-car garage.
1956
- First solo exhibition at Galleria del Naviglio, Milan.
1957
- First solo exhibition in London held at Gimpel Fils.
1958
- Second son, Paul, is born.
1959
- Awarded the Sculpture Prize at the First Paris Biennale for Young Artists.
