Room 11:  Night Movements 1987-1990

Night Movements is a single sculpture in four parts. It shows Caro's interest in creating sculpture that the viewer experiences both visually and through the physical movement of the body. By walking around and within the sculpture the viewer becomes an active participant, occupying its interior spaces and drawing the individual elements into a connected whole.

Night Movements

".The four-part Night Movements, [is] stained green and voluptuously vegetable in shape - appropriately, since it is inspired by Courbet's paintings of trees. Never has steel looked more elegantly soft or sensually pliable."

John McEwen, Sunday Telegraph, 20 October 1991.
