This year sculptor Richard Wentworth dressed a traditional Norwegian Spruce tree with broken halves of plates and strings of dimmed domestic light bulbs. Text panels on the base described the histories of the tree's four elements: the lightbulb, the plate, the Christmas tree and the plinth.

Biography:

Richard Wentworth was born in Samoa in 1947. He studied at Hornsey College of Art, London, from 1965, and worked with Henry Moore in 1967. He studied at the Royal College of Art, London between 1968-70.
