Degas, Sickert und Moderne Themen

Die 1880er

Während der 1880er vertiefte sich Degas Einfluß auf verschiedene britische Künstler. Hier zeigen wir eine Reihe damals in London bekannter Werke von Degas Seite an Seite mit Gemälden britischer Zeitgenossen. Unter den letzteren war es Walter Richard Sickert, der am originellsten auf Degas revolutionäre Malweise reagierte. Die Gegenüberstellung ihrer Werke demonstriert unter anderem das gemeinsame Interesse am Theater und an seinen ungewöhnlichen Lichteffekten. Degas drückte es so aus: ‘Wir schaffen echte Effekte mit künstlichen Mitteln.”
