Degas, Sickert y los temas modernos

La década de 1880

En esta sala podemos ver cómo fue creciendo la influencia de Degas sobre los artistas británicos durante la década de 1880.

Aquí encontramos los óleos de Degas conocidos en Gran Bretaña en esta época, junto a obras de artistas británicos contemporáneos suyos. El más importante entre estos últimos fue Walter Richard Sickert, el artista británico que respondió a las innovaciones de Degas de la manera más sorprendente y original. La yuxtaposición de las obras de estos dos artistas deja en evidencia que compartían el mismo interés por el teatro y sus excepcionales efectos luminosos. Como dijo Degas: ‘Se puede conseguir un efecto realista usando métodos falsos.’
