De Wint was another artist who studied Girtin's watercolours at Dr Monro's house. Girtin's influence was long lasting and it took many forms. In this watercolour de Wint has adopted a limited range of colours to create the same mood Girtin evoked in his spacious moorland scenes. De Wint also used the tip of his brush to add rapid touches to areas of broad wash, as Girtin did in his on-the-spot sketches.
