'Leeds Leap' was taken wholly by accident, I had just arrived at work and noticed the kids clambering up the building opposite (Leeds International Pool). The jumper appeared to be sizing up the gap so I took out my camera, composed the shot, and clicked off a few frames as he jumped - it all happened in the blink of an eye. I had seen Parkour on the TV but had no clue it was so popular, I later met the kids involved and am working on a project about them. My feeling is that these kids longed for a physical connection with their world, and Parkour offered them a new, and perhaps most importantly, spiritual and non competetive means to achieve it. Parkour is about self understanding and discipline, now surely that has got to beat being a couch potato?
