Richard Wright
Born: London, 1960
Richard Wright's wall paintings are designed and executed on the spot, last for the duration of an exhibition and are then painted over and erased. This working method puts pressure on the artist to find a combination of elements that have some resonance with the environment. Typically, he focuses on the architectural space itself, with all its quirks and irregularities, to encourage viewers to encounter the space and the art within it from unexpected angles.
For Intelligence, Wright has been invited to respond to the givens of the gallery space and the other works in the exhibition as the show is being installed. His work may appear in several locations throughout the exhibition, prompting viewers to be alert to the mechanics of looking and perceiving.
