This photograph was taken from the window of the local island
plane leaving Cayman Brac in the Caribbean, and shows Donald
Crowhurst's abandoned trimaran. This image has a resonance
for me beyond just the story of Crowhurst, in its echo of
the death of the artist, Robert Smithson who often photographed
his land art sculptures from the air, including the Spiral
Jetty, and died documenting his Amarillo Ramp in
an aeroplane accident in 1973.
