Marc Camille Chaimowicz
The work Chaimowicz is showing for the Triennial was first exhibited in 1979. Here and There… includes: 1930s Isokon furniture designed by Marcel Breuer, a static image of the artist examining his reflection in the mirror and two projected sequences of slides showing the artist engaged in simple domestic activities. Within the space, a silver pendulum swings back and forth – marking time. This work collapses two-dimensional representations of 'here' and 'there' to effect the sensation of partial recall. The photographic slides offer glimpses of a life lived, but they are intersected and partially obliterated by the shadows cast from objects and bodies situated solidly in the present. Chaimowicz will also revisit the performance Partial Eclipse..., which was first staged at the Tate Gallery in 1981. In this piece a young man playing the part of the artist paces a figure-of-eight pattern on the floor while a soundtrack combines music with a broken narrative of reminiscences. ![]() Marc Camille Chaimowicz Here and There... 1979–2006 Slide projectors with pendulum, text, vase and glass corner table and furniture designed by Marcel Breuer for Isokon Courtesy the artist and Cabinet, London Installation View © Tate 2006 Biography
