Live Works: Pablo Bronstein

Pablo Bronstein: Plaza Minuet
Friday 7 April 2006, 18.30–19.00 during Late at Tate Britain and Saturday 8 April, 15.00–15.30 North Duveen galleries

Pablo Bronstein will stage two interventions using the marked out void in this plaza space. Working with a group of Baroque dance enthusiasts, he has choreographed a succession of movements that will be ‘walked through’ by the dancers at selected intervals during the day, accompanied by music.

Bronstein combines a historical dance form with an idea of ‘ordinary dance’ akin to the 1960s Minimalist choreography of Yvonne Rainer in works such as We Shall Run 1963. The piece convolutes straightforward pedestrian activity with mannered swirls and turns that become a complex ritualistic dance.
