Susan Ferleger Brades has been Director of the Hayward Gallery in London since 1996, having first joined the Hayward in 1980 as an Exhibition Organiser, subsequently becoming Senior Exhibition Organiser and later Deputy Director. She was responsible for organising shows including, amongst others, Edward Hopper, Picasso's Picassos, Renoir, Falls the Shadow: Recent British and European Art - 1986 Hayward Annual, Le Corbusier: Architect of the Century, Art in Latin America, Richard Long, Gravity and Grace - the changing condition of sculpture 1965-1975 and James Turrell. |
She also plays an active role in the planning of architectural developments for the Hayward Gallery and South Bank Centre site, and has overall responsibility for the National Touring Exhibitions programme and the Arts Council Collection, which the Hayward manages on behalf of the Arts Council of England.
Susan Ferleger Brades worked previously at the Guggenheim Museum in New York and at the Whitechapel Art Gallery on their Twentieth Century British Sculpture exhibition. She initially came to the UK from the United States in the late 1970s to study her MA at the Courtauld Institute of Art.
