VerbalEyes is Tate Britain's schools outreach project, giving young people the opportunity to explore art and language using the Tate collection with contemporary artists. Over 400 children from seven primary schools in the London boroughs of Newham, Greenwich and Westminster work with artists and writers on a project during which they visit Tate Britain, investigate different elements of art and language and create a final piece of collaborative artwork.

The VerbalEyes exhibition covers many themes and ideas. On level 2 in the Octagon and Duveens galleries, Edward Wilson, Greenslade and Charlton Manor schools respond to mythology, transformation and the unfinished artwork. In the Millbank studio, Manor Primary explore how the Thames connects people and places. Gallions, Essex and Essendine schools have researched growth, gestures and change; their responses are on display in the Clore Foyer on level 1.

Continuing professional development is a key part of VerbalEyes. The focus for each school's project is developed collaboratively by the artists, writers and teachers. Each school also takes part in a whole school teacher training day.
