On the Coach

"Hello there, Mr. Turner. These coaches are dashed uncomfortable, aren't they? No offence to the fine gentleman driving us, of course - or the equally fine horse pulling us along! We're being shaken around so that all our bones fair rattle around in our bodies. No wonder, when you consider the state of our roads. You say you're headed for Harewood house?"

Look at English roads at the time as depicted by one of your later works. No tarmac here! Dirt roads are none too comfortable to ride along, as you and Henry have just found out.

Hours have passed...

"That's Harewood House you can see over there, William Turner. I hope you get on well with this patron of yours, the Honourable Edward Lascelles. I hear he's quite a dandy, and spends hours each day choosing which of his fine clothes to wear. I trust he doesn't behave too high and mighty with you. Ah, we have arrived at long last, goodbye sir."
