2. The Personal - what do I bring?
Cornelia Parker recognises the importance of allowing space for a
personal response to the work. She has said in interview, 'Every single person who sees this work will have a very different response. All I try to do with my work is to make something that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, and then I hope that it might do that for someone else.'
Our response will always be informed by our background, culture and personal experiences and will therefore change from person to person.
Discussion points
- What are your first reactions to the work?
- Why do you think or feel this way?
- What kind of world do the objects belong to?
- What are their associations?
- Can you make a link between this work and your experiences of the world?
