A brief introduction to one of the nominees for the 2013 Turner Prize

Ebrington, Derry-Londonderry

Derry~Londonderry in Northern Ireland will hold the 2013 Turner Prize. The venue, Ebrington, is seen here through the Peace Bridge

Nominated for

His pioneering projects This variation at documenta (XIII) and These associations at Tate Modern.

Who he is

Both structured and improvised, Sehgal’s intimate works consist purely of live encounters between people and demonstrate a keen sensitivity to their institutional context. Through participatory means, they test the limits of artistic material and audience perception in a new and significant way. In Derry~Londonderry, Sehgal shows a version of This is exchange, originally created in 2003.

 What they say

These associations is one of the best Turbine Hall commissions. There are no objects: we are the subject. It is about communality and intimacy, the self as social being, the group and the individual, belonging and separation. We’re in the middle of things. It is marvellous.
Adrian Searle, The Guardian
