Who is Elena Batham?
Elena Batham (@elenabatham) is the fictional lead character in an interactive story experiment called John Martin’s Underworld.
What is John Martin’s Underworld?
Underworld is an experiment in online interactive storytelling, and a kind of miniature Alternate Reality Game. It’s a story, told through twitter, in which the audience can influence the outcome if they ask the right (or enough) questions. It is a free interpretation of the life, times, art and influence of the artist John Martin, and is being run alongside the Apocalypse exhibition at Tate Britain. Please leave any non-story-related comments (things that are broken, missing links etc) on this post, or if you want to collaborate with other readers on the choices in the game, check the comments here.
This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, places and incidents either are products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Any resemblance to actual events or locales or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental. Who/what/where/when/why?
Direct your questions to Elena. Sometimes she is able to answer them.
How long will the story run for?
From 4 Nov until the beginning of December. It’s hard to be more specific. Time isn’t quite right in the Underworld.
Are you promoting/associated with X?
Elena is supposed to be like a real person, she has knowledge of the world (she really likes Beyonce, for example), and will interact with anyone whose messages she receives, but is not promoting or otherwise associated with any other interest beyond Tate.
