Tate Times Drawing Challenge

Constable, Self Portrait, 1806
John Constable, Self portrait, 1806
Pencil on paper support: 190 x 145 mm

If you are aged 11–18 and love drawing, Tate, in partnership with The Times newspaper, is offering you a unique chance to exhibit at Tate Modern as part of the remarkable four-day festival UBS Openings: The Long Weekend (25–28 May 2007).

If you fancy the chance of seeing your work displayed at Tate Modern then send us an A4 drawing of yourself using either pen, pencil or fixed charcoal to the address below before Saturday 14 April 2007.

Although the theme is simple we think it offers lots of room for you to use your imagination, reflect your individual personality and show your style of drawing. Many famous artists have used the self portrait in lots of different ways and there are many great examples in Tate’s Collection.

UBS Openings: The Long Weekend 2007
The late May bank holiday festival is a wonderful mix of unique performances fusing music, film, art and performance in the fabulous Turbine Hall space and daylong entertainment for families and children. It brings to life the newly hung displays at Tate Modern which focus this year on drawing.

Challenge Details:
Make sure your drawing is A4 in size and has your name, age and a contact telephone or email clearly on the back, to the following address by Friday 13 April 2007. A jury including Tate Modern’s Head of Education, Anna Cutler; The Times’s critic Rachel Campbell Johnston; UBS’s curator Joanne Bernstein; Artist and Professor of Drawing at Chelsea College of Art, Stephen Farthing; and the artist Grayson Perry, will select the best to show as part of UBS Openings: The Long Weekend.
