Saturday 23 February 2008, 14.00–15.00

Join materials scientist Mark Miodownik, artist Zoe Laughlin and designer Martin Conreen as they reveal some of the secrets behind the Tate Modern collection. Featuring the melancholic Lead bell, the essence of fluorescence, musical combs, and other strange materials from the Materials Library. After the talk there will be the opportunity to get hands-on with the materials and play with the demonstrations.

Miodownik, Laughlin and Conreen are part of the Materials Library, a group which explores the beauty, strangeness and science of matter. They specialise in hands-on demonstrations of the art and science of stuff and have produced a free audio tour of the Tate Modern, also called What Can The Matter Be?
