Degas, Sickert And Toulouse Lautrec: Modern Life In Britain And France 1870 - 1910
Degas, Sickert and Toulouse-Lautrec are at the heart of this ground-breaking exhibition, exploring the dynamic dialogue between British and French painters in the founding years of modern art. Focusing on images of city life, the theatre and music-halls, the exhibition presents a world of decadence, sexual danger and dandyism. It reveals an era of innovation and experimentation, of fascinating cultural exchanges and controversy.
In a unique opportunity to experience the vibrant art scene of nineteenth-century London and Paris, the exhibition draws together over 100 rarely-seen works in painting, pastel and lithography, including more than twenty each by Degas, Sickert and Toulouse-Lautrec. Drawing on a range of international collections in Europe, Australia and the United States, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and incorporating many previously unseen works from private collections, the show offers an unmissable chance to explore a moment of brilliant artistic invention.
