Illustrations for Walter Scott's Provincial Antiquities
of Scotland (1818-26)
From 1818 to 1825 Turner worked on a commission for views of Scottish
castles and other historic buildings to accompany the prose of Sir
Walter Scott. He took two trips around Scotland in 1818 and 1822.
The first lasted two weeks, during which he filled three sketchbooks.
Six other artists contributed to the project, which was published
as a series. The prints were later published together in several
volumes.
