Founded in 1914, The Baltimore Museum of Art is Maryland's largest art museum with more than 85,000 objects ranging from ancient mosaics to contemporary art. The Museum presents a variety of major traveling exhibitions each year as well as special installations that showcase the Museum's incomparable collection in engaging ways. The Cone Collection-the BMA's pre-eminent holdings of Post-Impressionist and modern art-is one of the most celebrated art collections in the world. It includes a group of 500 works by Matisse, considered the largest and most comprehensive holding of his art in the world, as well as major examples by Picasso, Cézanne, Gauguin, van Gogh, and Renoir. The BMA also has grand European paintings and sculpture from the Renaissance to the 19th century; remarkable African, Native American, and Oceanic art; exquisite Maryland period rooms; fine galleries of European, American, and Asian decorative arts and textiles; and a significant collection of prints, drawings, and photographs from the 15th century to the present. The West Wing for Contemporary Art houses the BMA's expanding and diverse collection of post-1945 art and the 2.7-acre sculpture garden is one of the largest in the U.S. The BMA is also recognized for dynamic school programs that reach more than 30,000 students each year and for imaginative interactive programs such as Art+Fun Packs that allow families to explore the Museum through costumes, songs, and sketchbooks.

Fundación Juan March

Created in 1955 by the Spanish financier Juan March Ordinas, the Fundación Juan March is a private philanthropic institution. It organises, both in its Madrid headquarters and elsewhere in Spain and abroad, a wide range of cultural events (with free admission): art exhibitions, concerts, lecture series, public seminars and academic meetings. The Foundation houses two libraries devoted to Contemporary Spanish Theatre and Music, and publishes books and periodicals.

Over the last 30 years, it has organised more than 520 art exhibitions (which have been visited by over 8,200,000 million people) of great artists from the 20th century (Kandinsky, Picasso, Matisse, Monet, Toulouse-Lautrec, Andy Warhol, David Hockney, etc.); joint exhibitions on particular artistic schools, movements or a given country or period; prints, photography, and shows of works by contemporary Spanish artists. The Foundation also owns a collection of Spanish contemporary art (more than 1.600 works, including 527 paintings and sculptures), part of which is exhibited in the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art in Cuenca, in the Museum of Spanish Contemporary Art in Palma de Mallorca, and in its headquarters in Madrid. For its patronage of the visual arts the Foundation has received a number of awards, including the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts, presented by the King of Spain (1980).
 

Museu Calouste Gulbenkian

The museum is a reflection of the personal taste, culture and spirit of Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian and in his will he provided for the creation of a Portuguese foundation with branches in London and Paris, concerned with charity, art, education and science.

The collection is eclectic as it runs from Egyptian sculpture to French furniture, from Oriental ceramics to manuscripts, bookbindings and old books, from objects of Syrian glass to tapestry textiles. Lalique jewellery, Greek coins and Italian renaissance medals. The collection of paintings includes works by Dierick Bouts, Van der Weyden, Carpaccio, Rubens, Van Dyck, Frans Hals, Rembrandt, Guardi, Gainsborough, Romney, Lawrence, Fragonard, Corot, Renoir, Boucher, Manet, Degas and Monet.

The Museum was opened to the public in 1969.
