What We Did
The children from East Park were studying a local history topic so we went into our local park which is over 100 years old and sketched different aspects of the park. We also compared how the park was used years ago to now.
The children were surprised that the park once had a boating lake and really enjoyed sketching the clock tower that could be seen on 100 year old photos.

The children carried out a small scale census to discover what people did for work and to work out the average age.

Final Thoughts
Teacher:
The children have really enjoyed exploring their local area and have gained some artistic skills in the process. They have improved their observational skills and attention for detail. They have opened up their minds and become far more creative. This supported our topic for studying the local area and it has been great to share that on a national scale.
