What We Did

As part of work this term in Religious Education the year group visited Beverley Minster. Developing on from this visit, we undertook work in literacy, I.C.T. and art and well as continuing with work planned for R.E. and circle time. The children used Colour Magic to create their own stained glass windows. They also made stained glass windows from tissue paper and designed and painted their own windows using powder colour. A 3-D model of the Minster was designed and made by the children using boxes. In literacy the children recounted their visit to the Minster using a writing template.

My visit to Beverley Minster by Sophie, 6
I thought our visit to Beverley Minster was interesting for several reasons. Firstly I discovered the stained glass windows told stories from the bible. I also learnt that the organ needed big pipes to play. I thought that it was interesting that the furniture had a mouse on it. Finally I thought that the carved doors were beautiful. So as you can see I had a good time.

Final Thoughts

The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Minster and learned lots about religious building, artefacts and related vocabulary. The visit prompted enthusiasm from staff and children who were keen to participate in all tasks. A well worth while project!
