What We Did

Both partner classes visited a local monument. The year 4 children at St Michael's school visited Corfe Castle where they undertook sketches, took photographs and visited the activity centre there. The head teacher of the school took them on an exciting guided tour around the castle, telling the children stories of the past. Watercolour painting and charcoal drawings were produced back at school. The children also carried out their own study of Bournemouth and the local area and produced their own projects, which were displayed in the classroom.

The year 4 children at St Joseph's school visited Dudley castle, where they took photographs and learnt about the castle's history. They also visited the local zoo and learnt about the animals. St Joseph's school set up an e-mail partner for each child. The children from both schools emailed each other about themselves and about their class visits. They also sent each other photographs and sketches. It has been very successful.

Final Thoughts

St Michael's: It has been very exciting working with another school. We have learnt all about their local monument, Dudley castle and about Dudley Zoo. The children have really enjoyed e-mailing each other and finding out about their e-mail pen-pal. It has given the children an insight into the history of Dudley and it has been a brillant opportunity for the children to learn about others in different parts of the country.

St Joseph's: We have thoroughly enjoyed working with another school and finding out about their local area, especially about Corfe Castle. We have really enjoyed having e mail partners and exchanging photographs and sketches. It has been a super learning experience for the children.

Teachers: This project has been a brilliant idea and the children have gained a lot from it. It has fitted in very well with our ICT modules this year - 'scanning and word processing' ,and with our Geography topic - 'Improving our Environment', as we have been discussing the local area and its attractions. The children have learnt how to send and receive e-mails. They have all got e-mail partners and this fits in very well with their personal development and communication skills in PSHE.
