Planning for Presentations

>Introduction
>Activity 1: Looking at, Selecting and Titling Work

Discuss: Presentation evening. What will be on display? Show plan of room, 'curate'.

Discuss: Tate Interventions Check students have brought in objects, etc. etc. Go though any issues arising from this. List all that still needs to be brought in, go over health and safety specifications. Work with pupils on adapting/alternative to any ideas (two of the pupils I worked with had to do just this; their idea was to place slices of hard-dough bread into a floor grate in one of the galleries, having observed an aesthetic similarity between Tate's minimal floor-grates and domestic toasters. However, having brought the boys proposals to the Gallery managers at Tate, we found that any organic substances were strictly prohibited from being taken into the gallery. This gave the boys just this session to re-work their idea. Through discussion they reconsidered the floor grate as similar, also, to an oven hob, and subsequently decided to place a frying pan and fake eggs on this to suggest the making of a breakfast). Make titles for interventions, to be formatted later (write up a big sheet - stick on a wall for the pupils to fill in).

Location: at school

Learning Objectives

  • To make final selection of images for display, create titles / text for relevant pieces of work
  • Tate interventions - look at objects brought in by students, go over health and safety issues, re-think interventions if any need adapting
  • Prepare for presentation evening.
