History through Art
What historical evidence can be drawn from works of art? What are the possibilities, advantages and limitations of using art works as historical references? This course for teachers of both history and art takes you on a tour of the Tate Collection through Tudor, Stuart, Victorian and modern times. You will:
- Explore themes such as political and social structures, wars and conflicts, beliefs and ideas, and significant people
- Reflect on which histories are revealed, obscured and transformed through Tate's historic, modern and contemporary Collection
- Take part in some stimulating activities involving creative thinking, making and play
- Learn strategies to work with children with special needs.
