Uncovering Meaning

Wednesday 10 February 2010, 10.30–16.00

TATE MODERN  FOR ALL LEVELS

This course focuses on the development of skills - thinking, discussion and making - to unpick meaning and enhance understanding. Through direct engagement with works of art in the gallery, participants explore the practices and theories which inform a critical understanding of modern and contemporary art. The course offers:

  • Practical ways in which teachers might encourage students to analyse and interpret what they see
  • Methods for considering how art is made, viewed and valued
  • Tools for developing a critical dialogue that can be transferred to everyday learning
  • Frameworks for discussion enabling students to place their own and others' work in a wider cultural context.
