The Bite-size Life of Blake divides Blake's life into nine sections. A brief illustrated text linked to the rest of the site explains what Blake did, painted, engrave or wrote in each period. (Total: 10 pages)

In Illustrations to Dante seven of Blake's watercolour illustrations to the Divine Comedy are presented with text explanations and audio extracts from the English version of the poem on which Blake based his designs. The poetry is read by David Burke of the Almeida Theatre who recently played John of Gaunt opposite Ralph Fiennes' Richard II. (Total: 8 pages/+ Audio)

(Total: 9 pages)

4. Formidable Works (14 pages)
In Songs of Innocence and of Experience eight of the Songs are introduced in detail. The poems, read by David Burke of the Almeida Theatre, can be listened to in MP-3 or Real Audio formats. The poems are shown in their original engraved form with pop-up notes to explain the symbolism. A summary and analysis are also provided. The songs selected are those with the most interesting social and historical background such as 'The Little Black Boy' (slavery), 'London' (big city alienation), 'The Chimney Sweeper' (worker exploitation) and 'The Garden of Love' (repression of sexual desire).
'Holy Thursday' and 'The Chimney Sweeper' are presented in both the Innocence and Experience versions so that you can see how Blake sought to show the 'two contrary states of the human soul'. Blake's most popular poem, 'The Tiger' is also introduced in this section. (Total: 9 pages/+ Audio)
