Modern British Art

12 February to early 2001

As the art of the new century begins to unfold, it is illuminating to consider its origins.

This selection from the Tate Collection spans the entire twentieth century and offers an insight into some of the major movements and influences affecting British art. Substantially revitalised with new works and different areas of emphasis, Modern British Art represents work by a wide range of artists including Stanley Spencer, Henry Moore, Bridget Riley and Gillian Wearing.

A new addition to the display is the Focus Room which examines particular movements and artists in more detail. The current focus is on Stanley Spencer and his birthplace, the village of Cookham.
